CORN SNAKES

Pantherophis guttata guttata

A BIT ABOUT CORN SNAKES: Corn Snakes make the ideal beginner snakes due to there care, temperament and size.  They are relatively small snakes that are easy to handle with (for the majority) a docile temperament. They come in a wide range of colours and morphs, striped or mottled.

LOCATION: southern and central eastern states of America from south-central New Jersey to Tennessee and Louisiana.

SIZE: 3- 5 ft maximum recorded size is 1.8m

TEMP: (Daytime 82/88 degrees) (Night time 75/82 degrees) temps can differ slightly depending on locality.

LIGHTING: Not accentual, however, it is important to have a day/night time cycle (photoperiod)

LIFESPAN: up to 20 years, longest on record over 32 years

SETUP: Hatchlings can be reared in geo-flats and adults a vivarium 36”L x 18”W x 20”H should be fine.  It is important to maintain a temperature gradation (hot/colder end) this is so the snake has a choice of what temperature it feels best in and when. There are many different heating systems on the market we suggest you choose one that best suits your vivarium.  Substrate, again there are lots available but we prefer woodchip or paper. Paper is though the more hygienic of the two. You will also need a water bowl with fresh water daily and hides preferably at both the warm and cooler end of you vivarium.  Branches for décor and a place to clime can also be added, vivariums can be as elaborate or as simple as you like just make sure that décor is secured so no injuries can occur.

This is only a guide we highly recommend that you do further research in to your chosen pet.
